Meet Jonathan Cullen

Welcome to my psychotherapy practice, where I am committed to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges and discover a path to personal growth and healing. With compassion, empathy, and a deep understanding of human behaviour, I strive to create a safe and supportive space for my clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and relationships.

My commitment to Trauma-Informed Care guides your journey towards healing. I recognise the diverse experiences of individuals seeking support and prioritise a safe, nurturing environment for transformative growth. My approach is rooted in the latest research, emphasising compassion, empowerment, and respect for each person’s journey. Together, we will cultivate resilience and well-being.

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Integrative Psychotherapy and identify as Neurodivergent. As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), I bring 25 years of experience from the working world and academia, providing me with a comprehensive understanding of life’s difficulties. I specialise in working with older adults, individuals with active addiction or in recovery, and those who identify as neurodivergent.

In my practice, I value the importance of finding the right therapist. Making this decision can be overwhelming, which is why I prioritise creating a non-judgmental environment where individuals can feel comfortable sharing their concerns. I offer an initial assessment to help prospective clients explore how we can work together and develop a sense of the therapeutic journey ahead.

I realize that if I were stable and steady and static, I would be living death. So I accept confusion and uncertainty and fear and emotional highs and lows because they are the price I willingly pay for a flowing, perplexing, exciting life.

My Approach to Counselling

Informed by various therapeutic approaches, including humanistic, cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic, and existential therapies, my integrative counselling style considers the whole person—addressing their mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. I believe in empowering clients to lead the direction of therapy, providing the freedom to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviours at their own pace. The therapeutic relationship is built on trust, respect, and understanding.

If you are seeking support in navigating relationship difficulties, understanding challenging patterns of behaviour, coping with loss, or addressing addiction-related concerns, I invite you to take the first step towards personal growth and healing. Together, we can explore your concerns, develop healthier coping strategies, and work towards positive change.

Qualifications & Experience

I obtained my BSc Hons degree in Integrative Psychotherapy from the University of East London, and I am dedicated to continuous professional development. Additionally, I have completed certifications in “Introduction to Counselling” at Citylit and a foundation course in Psychosocial Studies at Birkbeck. I adhere to ethical guidelines established by the BACP and engage in ongoing training to enhance my skills and knowledge.

As part of my training placement, I offered short-term weekly counselling sessions with older adults who come for a variety of reasons, from relationship issues to coming to terms with end-of-life and uncertainty.

I offer both short and long-term counselling, available remotely and face-to-face. My counselling practice is based in London NW4 and in Cuffley, Herts.

Life cannot be lived nor can death be faced without anxiety. Anxiety is guide as well as enemy and can point the way to authentic existence. The task of the therapist is to reduce anxiety to comfortable levels and then to use this existing anxiety to increase a patient's awareness and vitality.
